A meeting hosted by AT&T will be held to discuss their proposed distributed cell antenna system (DAS), answer questions and provide attendees with details about the proposed sites. AT&T has proposed installing antennas on utility poles throughout Palo Alto, including Barron Park. They are called DAS, which is an abbreviation for Distributed Antenna Systems. Each antenna in the system would have an object (or objects), about the size of the power transformers that are now on the poles, mounted about 6′ or so above the top of the poles and a battery system lower down on the pole that would provide backup power to the antenna for about 8 hours in the event of a utility power outage.

At a meeting with the Barron Park Board last year, AT&T representatives presented a map showing six Barron Park utility pole sites for the antennas. The locations were:

  • 760 Chimalus Dr.
  • 935 Matadero Ave
  • 520 Barron Ave
  • 715 Barron Ave
  • 3998 La Donna (near corner of Los Robles)
  • and 545 Georgia Ave

The AT&T representatives who provided this information to the BPA Board were unable to explain the rationale for selecting these specific sites, or answer detailed questions about the system. For more information  consult the AT&T website.
