Join us for Bike Palo Alto! 2012 and the Mayor’s Challenge this Sunday, 10/7, 1-4 pm at El Carmelo! Enjoy the beautiful fall weather and discover Palo Alto’s great bike routes! Meet your neighbors, lower your carbon footprint and have some fun!
Start at El Carmelo School (Bryant & Loma Verde) where we will have bike safety info, helmet fitting, and basic bike safety checks and maintenance. Then choose one of our highlighted routes and take a fun ride with free treats along the way at stops including Whole Foods, the Sweet Shop and the YMCA. The article states that this plan will be approved by the Planning and Transportation Commission tonight (4/11/2012), but with some dissent. However, the debate may help you understand the issue. The meeting begins at 6pm (not 7) and is broadcast on cable channel 26 and on the web (and available 2-3 days later in the archive)
Note: The broadcast/webcast schedule lists 7pm, so I don’t know if they will miss the first hour of the meeting or if they didn’t update the schedule for the earlier-than-normal start.

Have you looked at your neighbor’s garbage can lately? If you have, you’ll see that many of your neighbors have gone “mini”. Since April 2011, our neighborhood has been in a Mini-Can Challenge with other Palo Alto neighborhoods helping the community with its Zero Waste goal, and to see who can achieve 50% mini-can garbage service throughout their neighborhood first.
