The Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission is scheduled to review the Arastradero Road Re-striping Project on JULY 25 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.  According to the notice from the Commission they will be making a recommendation to the City Council to make the changes permanent. The Commission’s recommendation will go to the City Council for a decision, probably in September (after their summer break). A copy of the Agenda and Staff Report for the July 25th meeting can be found here.

While the Commission may boast of the ‘traffic calming’ effects the project has had, they have glossed over the facts, from their own statistics, that traffic on streets within Barron Park, and especially on Maybell Avenue, has increased significantly as drivers seek ways to avoid the congestion on Arastradero Road.

If you want to voice your opinions to the Planning Commission, you can attend the meeting and/or you can send an email to the Commission at:Planning.Commission@CityofPaloAlto.org  Please cc arastradero-trial@bpaonline.org (which is a subset of the Barron Park Association Board) so that they can be made aware of your comments. It will also be helpful if you mention in your email to the Commission that you live in Barron Park.

A summary of the project goals and history, current re-striping plan, traffic counts on Arastradero and Barron Park neighborhood streets (past and present), accident history, changes in Arastradero traffic speeds and more can be found in the slide presentation from the June 12 community meeting held at Juana Briones School by going to http://www.cityofpaloalto.org/gov/topics/projects/transit/charleston.asp. A summary of the June 12 meeting can be found athttp://www.paloaltoonline.com/news/show_story.php?id=25774
